Getting around Malaysia

Getting around Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur is the famous location of the Petronas Twin Tower. This landmark has captured the world for its outstanding design. You can visit the tower especially at night for the wonderful lighting system installed in the building.

Malaysia has plenty of sights to offer and you need to familiarize yourself with the city's transportation system so you will have your options readily available to get you to your destination.

Transport

From the airport, one can take the bus at 15 MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) or SGD 4. Bus from KL Sentral to airport operates from 3AM to 12MN. Travel takes about an hour. Online bookings for bus tickets are available. At RedBus, you can get 30% off for February 2016.

Alternatively, you can take the express train at 55 MYR now, before it was cheaper.

Train

There are trains traveling around most of Malaysia so one can just take the train for faster and more convenient travel to Malaysia's famous landmarks and shopping malls. I have visited Berjaya Mall, it is near a train station and during Chinese New year celebration (Chinese New Year is celebrated for 15 days according to a Singaporean lady I met in the bus), good sale can be available.

Train operates from maybe 5-6am until 1130pm. Train tickets (single journey) can be purchased at train stations.

Bus

Bus also ply along major routes in Kuala Lumpur so public transport is much available. Operation is not 24 hours so taxi is your option at night and rate is double at night hours.

Taxi

Taxi is almost everywhere in the city though it is a bit more pricey compared to the bus and trains. At night, the taxi drivers charge double so you will have to make sure you have the extra bucks for your fare.

Grab

The Grab application for booking a taxi is also popular in Malaysia. If you have one in your smartphone, you might as well try using it in Kuala Lumpur.

You better arrange your schedule because night travels in Kuala Lumpur can be more expensive.
